dB
The abbreviation “dB” stands for “decibel,” named in honor of the British-American audiologist and telephone inventor, Alexander Graham Bell. The correct base unit is the “Bel,” and the decibel represents one-tenth of a Bel.
In simplified terms, a decibel is a unit of measurement used to indicate the level of loudness or sound intensity. It’s also applied to measure other physical quantities such as electrical power or signal strength. However, some experts point out that, alongside decibels, sound pressure level, measured in Pascals [Pa], plays a significant role in how sound is perceived.
