Sound Insulation Classes
To protect a building from outdoor noise, sound-insulating (acoustic) windows can be installed. Choosing the right glazing depends on assessing the external noise levels affecting your property. Based on this, you can determine which sound insulation class your building requires.
Sound insulation classes are divided into 7 categories (from 0 to 6), each corresponding to a specific range of sound reduction performance, measured in decibels (dB):
- Class 0: 0-25 dB
- Class 1: 25-29 dB
- Class 2: 30-34 dB
- Class 3: 35-39 dB
- Class 4: 40-44 dB
- Class 5: 45-49 dB
- Class 6: 50 dB and above
The higher the class, the more effective the window is at blocking external noise, which is especially important in urban areas, near highways, airports, or railroads. Choosing the right sound insulation class improves comfort, privacy, and sleep quality inside the building.
