RAL stands for “Reichs-Ausschuss für Lieferbedingungen” (Reich Committee for Delivery Terms). Today, the organization operates under the name RAL Deutsches Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung e.V. and is responsible for overseeing and testing quality standards across various product and service categories.

Many people associate RAL with RAL Colors-a standardized color system. These color codes ensure that a specific shade corresponds exactly to the same color worldwide, as long as it shares the same RAL number. This standardization is especially useful in trades like painting and manufacturing, as it simplifies the ordering and reproduction of colors.

RAL colors are also used in window systems to ensure consistent finishes and accurate color matching.
