Water Penetration Resistance Rating

Water Penetration Resistance-is a critical performance metric that indicates how well a window prevents water from leaking into a building during rainfall Water Penetration Resistance Rating is a performance measure that indicates how well a window can resist water infiltration under specific test conditions. The rating is determined through laboratory testing, where the window is exposed to water spray combined with increasing air pressure to simulate wind-driven rain. The pressure at which water first penetrates beyond the interior face of the window determines the product’s rating.

A higher rating means the window offers greater resistance to water leakage during storms and heavy rainfall. In the United States, testing and classification are typically carried out according to ASTM E547, ASTM E331, and referenced by AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 (commonly known as the North American Fenestration Standard, or NAFS).

This rating is critical for ensuring window performance, occupant comfort, and protection of the building envelope against moisture damage.
