Window Micro-Ventilation
Micro-ventilation is a feature found in many modern windows, allowing for controlled airflow without fully opening the sash. It is achieved via a dedicated hardware catch that activates when the window handle is turned to a specific position-typically 45° upward from the horizontal. This creates a small gap between the sash and the frame, enabling a continuous and regulated inflow of fresh air.
What Is Micro-Ventilation?
Micro-ventilation, also referred to as micro-opening, is a method that temporarily reduces the window’s airtight seal to improve air circulation. This is done by slightly shifting the sash away from the frame, without actually opening the window. The small opening allows fresh air to enter the room discreetly and gradually.
Modern window systems-such as those offered by OKNOPLAST-utilize advanced hardware that makes activating micro-ventilation simple and secure. The feature is often built into the handle mechanism, requiring just a manual turn.
Perimeter Ventilation – effiAIR:
Some OKNOPLAST window models are equipped with effiAIR perimeter ventilation, a modern alternative that allows for air exchange around the full perimeter of the window sash. This ensures healthy airflow without compromising security, insulation, or appearance.

Why Is Micro-Ventilation Important?
Signs of poor ventilation-such as fogged-up glass-indicate high indoor humidity levels. Condensation naturally forms due to everyday activities like cooking, showering, or even breathing. While it can’t be fully eliminated, micro-ventilation helps remove excess moisture while keeping the indoor space warm and comfortable.
If condensation forms on interior window surfaces, it could mean your current ventilation is inadequate. Micro-ventilation offers a simple yet effective way to address this issue without energy loss.
How to Activate Micro-Ventilation:
To activate this feature:
- Turn the window handle 45° upward (between fully open and tilt positions).
- This creates a narrow opening, allowing fresh air in without wide exposure.
Micro-Ventilation vs. Alternative Solutions:
While micro-ventilation is standard in many tilt-and-turn windows, alternatives such as window trickle vents also exist. These are small devices installed at the top of the frame that allow a constant supply of air to enter near the ceiling, promoting gentle air circulation without manual operation.
Micro-ventilation is a discreet, energy-efficient, and practical solution for managing indoor air quality-especially in well-insulated homes-by maintaining comfort while reducing the risk of excess humidity and condensation.
