1. Plan Your Rough Openings Carefully
Getting the rough openings right is critical for a smooth installation of Tilt and Turn windows. For uPVC windows, the exposed hinges require careful planning to avoid obstructions when the sash is fully opened. At full opening, there’s only about ½ inch of space between the sash and the edge of the frame. For aluminum windows, the clearance is even smaller, so precise measurements are essential.
When planning for drywall returns or other finishes, leaving just ½ inch of total space outside the frame for anchoring isn’t enough. This would only leave ¼ inch on either side, which is insufficient. To avoid issues, leave at least 1 inch of total space (½ inch on each side) outside the frame to allow for proper anchoring and smooth operation.
